The Hazel (Coll) is/was important to the Celts in stirring the imagination and helping knowledge acquisition. Hazel nuts were/are thought to help create visions and can be seen playing this role in myths.
For instance, in the story about Fionn Mac Cumhail, he came by his knowledge by coming into contact with the salmon of knowledge. The salmon became wise by eating hazel nuts from the trees surrounding a sacred pond. Interestingly, hazel nuts have been found to contain more protein (brain food) than most other foods (eggs for instance).
The Ogham symbol for the Hazel Tree (Coll) appears at the left. It translates as the letter C.
Ogham script is used to inscribe jewelry with various sayings and on decorative wall hangings (these can be made to order to say whatever you would like). To inquire about these items send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. To see one item of jewelry employing Ogham script click here.
