Tenor Drummer's Role in a Highland Pipe Band

The tenor drum is similar in appearance to the snare drum but doesn't have the raspy, high-pitched sound of a snare drum. The tenor drummer is judged on his or her flourishing ability (twirling the sticks) and his/her ability to carry a syncopated rhythm that complements the drum section of the band. The ability to make seamless transitions between playing and flourishing is also of consequence.
